OUT: Willoughby General

Willoughby General | Brooklyn

It’s great to move to a new city and make sure you experience it by going out and about. With that said, I’m glad to be starting this new “OUT” series on the blog today. It will feature the different places I travel, whether it be neighborhood spots in Brooklyn, cool places in Manhattan, restaurants back home in Atlanta, or a hotel across the world. I love sharing gems with people that they can visit whenever they’re out, too!

WILLOUGHBY GENERAL | 518 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11206

After months of work and a cool Kickstarter campaign, Willoughby General opened about a month ago. Transformed into the cutest little store from a former closed barbershop (you can see the progression on their instagram), it sits on the corner of Myrtle and Willoughby in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. It’s a five minute walk from the apartment I’m subletting and about a minute away from the Myrtle-Willoughby stop on the good ol’ G Train.

The cute exterior with the day’s specialties advertised on the chalk easel was enough to draw me inside. Walk in and be greeted with a smile and a hello by Willoughby General. If you’re not sure what you want, just ask what’s good! I did, and ended up with a yummy apple turnover (only available on weekends!) and a refreshing iced coffee.

The shelves are stocked with indie-type goods that aren’t found in your average store. Most of them being from companies right here in Brooklyn, as well as some of the suppliers of their coffee and pastries as well. My favorite is the Dona Chai that I picked up last weekend, which is a chai tea concentrate. I mix it with some hot vanilla almond milk and it is heaven. My go-to winter drink for sure.

Support Local | Willoughby General

I’m totally about supporting local, and Willoughby General definitely has the charm, good service, and great products that they’ll need to keep things going.
